Job Opportunity: Dialysis Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse – Dialysis (Peritoneal Dialysis focus)
  • Shift: Evening, 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (1:30 PM – 12:00 AM)
  • Hours per Week: 40 hours guaranteed
  • Call Requirements:
    • 12-hour on-call shift every other Sunday
    • 3-hour on-call shift approximately twice weekly after regular shift
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (work Saturday + on-call Sunday)
  • Time Off (RTO):
    • Maximum 5 days off total, no more than 2 consecutive days
    • No time off before/after holidays or on weekends
  • Floating: Mandatory float within scope as needed by facility

Required Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3 years full-time clinical nursing experience
    • At least 2 years current experience in peritoneal dialysis in an outpatient setting
    • Experience in education and training patients on peritoneal dialysis within the last 3 years
  • Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Illinois (no pending licenses accepted)
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) required
  • Locals: Local candidates accepted and preferred (within 75 miles radius)

Facility Highlights

  • Level 1 Trauma Center
  • Electronic charting system: Cerner
  • Parking available at $2/day with shuttle service to facility

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
  • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, annual renewal required; exemptions possible with approval
  • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 12 months
  • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually; chest x-ray and questionnaire if history positive
  • Immunizations or positive titers required for: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – May 4)
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually

Competency and Training Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 12 months of start
  • Color blindness testing within 12 months of start
  • General competency exam within 12 months of start
  • NIH Stroke Certification required for RNs in specified specialties, updated annually
  • Completion of PromisePoint EMR training modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)

Background and Documentation

  • Government-issued photo ID required
  • Background check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, including aliases
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Illinois Healthcare Worker Registry verification for work eligibility (not required for RNs)
  • Complete 7-year employment application with no gaps over 30 days
  • Annual skills checklist

Additional Notes

  • No holiday time off allowed during contract
  • Facility is a mandatory float site; flexibility required
  • Locals preferred but travel candidates accepted
  • No block scheduling for shifts
