Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - ER (Travel/Contract)

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15)
• Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics (40% over age 60)
• Unit Size: 26 beds, average daily census 97
• Patient Acuity: Medium acuity; 23% ESI level 1 & 2, 6% ESI level 4, rarely ESI 5
• Patient Diagnoses: High admission rate (40%), primary stroke center (TPA administration), Level 1 STEMI heart hospital, care for Level 3 trauma patients (no trauma certification required)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4 on all shifts including weekends
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
• Special Procedures/Skills: Moderate sedation, chest tubes, intubations, central lines, defibrillation/pacing
• Dress Code: Navy blue or grey scrubs

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Certifications:

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) issued by the American Heart Association
  • Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) certification
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued ID (Driver’s License/State ID)
• Criminal background check (7-year search, statewide, nationwide, and international if applicable) within 6 months of start
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
• Education verification of highest nursing degree (cannot pend at start)
• Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri)
• Unit-specific competency exam (annual update required)
• Skills checklist within 1 year of start (oncology skills checklist if applicable)
• Employment application
• Two professional references (supervisors preferred)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start
• Drug testing within 1 year of start, including specific drug panels, must remain valid throughout assignment
• Immunizations and health screenings:

  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (with yearly TB questionnaire)
  • Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (required during flu season)
• Fit mask testing (annual renewal required; facial hair must allow proper fit)
• Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
• HIPAA Acknowledgement, Confidentiality Form, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Hand Hygiene Policy, Fingernail Policy, Dress Code Policy (all must be reviewed and signed prior to start)
• Regulatory Compliance Education and BJC Orientation Modules (approx. 16 hours, must be completed prior to start or early in assignment)

• This position is for experienced travel nurses only; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
• The unit is a primary stroke center and a top heart hospital with a high volume of STEMI cases.
• Moderate sedation and critical care skills are essential.
