Operating Room Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Johnson City, Tennessee
Shift: Day, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
Schedule: 3 twelve-hour shifts with every other weekend off, or 7 days on / 7 days off 12-hour shifts
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work in General Operating Room (OR), Pediatric General OR, and Trauma settings
• Level 1 Trauma Center environment
• Expected to actively participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care
• General orientation begins on Sundays (online compliance-based learning) with 16 hours of nonbillable orientation
• Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes; additional overtime shifts may be flexed accordingly
• Traveler must live within 100 miles of the facility

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Tennessee
• Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience working with Pediatric patients, including Pediatric OR experience
• Trauma experience
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Education verification required
• Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check if licensed or working in Tennessee
• Photo for badge must meet specific standards and be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing
• Completion of facility-specific forms including dress code, contaminated sharps/body fluid exposure statement, smoking/tobacco use policy, influenza policy, and respirator medical evaluation questionnaire (time sensitive)
• Physical exam required within 1 year of start (not required annually)
• Respirator fit testing completed onsite (no outside fit tests accepted)
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) titers or vaccination documentation
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella titer or vaccination documentation
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31)
• Standard 9-panel drug screen within 14 days prior to start (instant test acceptable as placeholder)
• References: minimum 2 preferred, 3 ideal
• Skills checklist required

Additional Notes

• Orientation includes 16 hours of nonbillable training
• Hospital may flex shifts based on census without financial penalty
• Participation in clinical education for nursing students is part of the role
• Must be prepared to comply with all facility-specific policies and documentation deadlines
