Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVOR

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with experience in Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) cases. The role involves floating to the Main OR when no CVOR cases are scheduled. The patient population includes adult open heart surgeries such as CABG and valve procedures (aortic, mitral, pulmonic).


Required Experience

  • Minimum 3+ years of nursing experience (specialty experience preferred).
  • Scrub experience required for open CVOR cases and Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR).
  • Knowledge of devices such as Impella, HeartMate, ECMO, laser lead extractions, and TAVR procedures.

Schedule & Work Details

  • On-call requirement: 32 total hours per month.
  • No block schedule.
  • Locals accepted.
  • Hospital-provided scrubs.

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA required; RQI and instructor cards acceptable.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Preferred.
  • Scrub experience and relevant specialty certifications are highly recommended.

Licensure

  • Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for New Jersey.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to float to Main OR as needed.
  • Must be able to work with complex cardiovascular surgical patients.
  • Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers will be considered.

Compliance & Documentation

  • Background check required within 30 days of start.
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start.
  • Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Influenza vaccination or approved exemption required annually.
  • Fit testing and respiratory clearance as applicable.
  • Completion of required competency exams (medication, EKG/dysrhythmia, IV therapy) within 72 hours of contract start.
  • References: Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required.
  • Skills checklist to be completed and updated annually.

Patient Population

  • Adult open heart surgery patients including CABG and valve replacements.
  • Procedures involving advanced cardiac devices and ECMO.

Notes

  • Floating to Main OR may be required when no CVOR cases are scheduled.
  • Scrub experience for open CVOR cases and TAVR is mandatory.
  • Locals are welcome to apply.
  • No block scheduling; on-call hours required.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
  • Minimum 3 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience
  • CVOR experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Scrub experience for open CVOR cases
  • Scrub experience for Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
  • Knowledge of Impella devices
  • Knowledge of HeartMate devices
  • Knowledge of ECMO
  • Knowledge of laser lead extractions
  • Knowledge of TAVR procedures

I have 7 years of ICU and Cath Lab experience and am very interested in working in the United States.
