Registered Nurse - Operating Room (Night Shift) - Texas, El Paso
Job Details
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Hours per Week: 36
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse
- Experience in general surgery, trauma surgery, neurosurgery, and cardiovascular surgery
- Experience working in Level 1 OR Trauma centers (strict requirement)
- First-time travelers accepted if they have experience at a Level 1 facility
Required Certifications and Licenses
- Current RN license valid in Texas
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certification only; must not expire the same month as start date
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certification only; must not expire the same month as start date
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA certification only; must not expire the same month as start date
Additional Required Certifications
- NIH Stroke Certification (must be obtained within 6 months of start; no pending status allowed)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification (AHA only; same expiration rules as above)
On-Call Requirement
- On-call availability is required
Required Background and Compliance Checks
- 7-year background check including SS trace, county, nationwide, national sex offender, FACIS level 3, and education verification
- Education verification: Bachelor’s degree required for permanent staff; Associate’s degree acceptable for travel staff
- Employment application and facility-specific onboarding documents must be completed
- Primary source verification of state license (NURSYS verification required)
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start date
- Negative TB test (TSPOT or QGOLD within 3 months) or 2-step PPD; if positive, chest X-ray and TB questionnaire required
- Immunizations or positive titers required for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or signed declination
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) with a final deadline before start
- COVID-19 vaccination series or approved medical/religious exemption (facility-specific forms required)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
- Unit competency exam
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Forward-facing head and shoulder photo with neutral background for badge
- Completion of facility-specific modules and training (e.g., Culture of Safety, Confidentiality and Security Agreement, Tobacco-Free Workplace Agreement)
- Signing of property acknowledgement and other facility agreements
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Texas
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Neurosurgery experience
- Trauma experience
