Job Opportunity: PCU Float Registered Nurse
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Patient Population
- Adults to Geriatrics
Unit and Work Setting
- Float required to all Medical-Surgical (MS), MS Telemetry (MS Tele), and Progressive Care Unit (PCU) units within the hospital
- Patient ratios:
- PCU: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
- MS, MS Tele: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
- Unit systems used: Epic (required), Pyxis, SBAR
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
Shift Details
- Night shift: 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (approximately 6 weekends in a 13-week contract)
- Call: None
- Holidays: If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it; if 2, expected to work both; if 3, expected to work 2 of them
- Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Georgia
- Minimum 1 year of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with PCU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Certifications required prior to start:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Compliance and Onboarding
- Return to Orientation (RTO) required within a maximum of 7 days
- Full compliance with all onboarding requirements is mandatory to start on time; non-compliance results in a 2-week delay due to bi-weekly orientation scheduling
- Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8 weeks)
Background and Health Requirements
- Background check required within 30 days of start, including education verification
- Education verification required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start)
- Physical exam within 12 months of start (required by agency, not client)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months; TB questionnaire required annually
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
- Flu vaccine or signed declination (strongly encouraged during flu season)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (instant drug screen acceptable)
Additional Requirements
- Skills checklist updated within 12 months
- Verification of most recent work history required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start)
- Two clinical references required by agency
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance policies prior to start
This position is suitable for RNs with at least 1 year of experience who are comfortable floating across multiple adult and geriatric care units, working night shifts, and meeting comprehensive certification and compliance requirements.
