Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Ventura, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract

Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with oncology and telemetry experience for a travel contract position. This is a night shift role with every other weekend requirement. The nurse must be chemo certified and able to float to Medical-Surgical units. The patient population includes adults to geriatrics with medical/surgical diagnoses requiring telemetry and chemotherapy.

  • Tele Oncology
  • Telemetry monitoring
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Feeding tube care and management
  • Pre/Post hemodialysis management
  • Renal failure care
  • Accessing ports
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line care/management
  • Monitoring chemotherapy and chemotherapy administration
  • Peripheral line care/management
  • PICC line management
  • Starting IVs
  • Heparin protocols
  • Managing cardiac and vasoactive drips (no titration)
  • PCA management

Required Certifications

  • Chemo Certified (ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate)
  • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • TNCC/TCAR (Trauma Nursing Core Course/Trauma Care After Resuscitation)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Other preferred certifications may include ENPC, PALS, NRP depending on unit

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 1 year oncology experience, including experience within the last year
  • Oncology certification (CHEMO) required
  • Valid BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Valid ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • TNCC or TCAR certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Successful completion of an advanced EKG competency exam
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring
  • Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management
  • Experience managing renal failure patients
  • Blood product administration experience
  • Central line care and management experience
  • PICC line management experience
  • Ability to manage vasoactive drips without titration
  • Chemotherapy administration experience

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID and valid RN license verification
  • Background checks including 7-year history and various federal/state screenings
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
  • Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • 10-panel drug screen within 1 year, updated annually
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
  • COVID vaccination or declination accepted
  • Completion of advanced EKG competency exam (80% passing score, max 2 attempts)
  • Completion of facility-specific competency validations and orientation documents prior to start

Additional Information

  • This position involves working night shifts with weekend coverage every other weekend.
  • Average patient acuity includes telemetry and chemotherapy administration.
  • The facility provides trauma education modules if TNCC/TCAR certification is not current.
  • Candidates must complete required competency exams and facility-specific training prior to start.
