Job Opportunity: Interventional Radiology Tech

Location: Overland Park, Kansas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an Interventional Radiology (IR) Tech with experience in a variety of specialized IR procedures and equipment. The role includes floating to X-ray and other departments as needed. Weekend on-call coverage is required (approximately 1-2 weeknights per week and every 5th weekend).


Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in Interventional Radiology (higher value taken from description)
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Ability to float within scope to meet facility needs, including X-ray support
  • Experience with the following procedures and skills:
    • Interventional Radiology and Special Procedures
    • PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System)
    • Stock supplies management
    • Aortography, Chest Tube Placement, Embolization
    • Gastrostomy Tube Placement
    • Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filter placement and removal
    • Liver Biopsy, Mesenteric Angiogram, Paracentesis
    • Pelvic angiography, Percutaneous Hepatic Angiography
    • Pulmonary arteriography, Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) of the liver
    • Renal Angiography and Renal Artery Stent Placement
    • Selective visceral angiography, Stent placement
    • Angiography of genitourinary system
    • Catheter/drain exchange, Internal/external biliary drainage, Nephrostomy
    • Ureteral Stent Placement, Uterine Arterial Embolization, Vertebroplasty
    • Central Venous Access/Port Placement, including PICC lines
    • Use of GE Innova IGS equipment
    • Equipment setup, prep access site, room circulator, sterile field maintenance
    • Isolation Precautions/PPE, Rapid Response/Code team participation
    • Sterile Technique

Work Schedule & Floating

  • Ratio: 1:2 on days
  • Weekend on-call required (call only)
  • Floating between departments, units, and facilities as needed
  • Locals accepted within local radius
  • No pending licenses accepted
  • Return to Office restrictions: No more than 7 days
  • Guaranteed minimum hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ARRT (Registered Radiologic Technologist) - Radiography
  • State Licensed Radiologic Technologist (LRT) license for Kansas
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, etc.)

Equipment & Systems

  • GE Innova IGS
  • EPIC EMR for charting
  • PACS

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Criminal background check within 6 months of start (7-year search)
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification required prior to start
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include standard panels
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers required: Tdap, TB testing, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Various facility-specific compliance documents and trainings required (e.g., HIPAA, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Regulatory Compliance Education, Hand Hygiene Policy, Dress Code Policy)
  • Skills checklist and competency exams as applicable

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Employment application must be completed and uploaded
  • Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required and must be updated annually
  • Floating and flexibility to assist in other imaging departments as needed

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid Interventional Radiology Technologist license in Kansas
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an Interventional Radiology Technologist, including experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • ARRT Registered Radiologic Technologist (Radiography) certification
  • Proficient in Interventional Radiology and Special Procedures
  • Experience with PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System)
  • Skilled in Aortography, Chest Tube Placement, Embolization, and Gastrostomy Tube Placement
  • Experienced in Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filter placement, removal, and inferior vena cavagram
  • Familiarity with Epic EMR system

  • Scrub color and badge provided
  • On-call coverage includes weeknights and every 5th weekend
  • Regular floating may be required between departments and facilities
  • No prior travel experience explicitly required
