Job Opportunity: Stepdown Registered Nurse
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Description
- Stepdown Critical Care (SDCC) is a 12-bed unit providing care for patients requiring a level of care between intensive care and progressive care units.
- Patient population includes trauma, surgery, transplants, lung disorders, and ventilated patients.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:3-4 on day and night shifts.
- Collaboration with Critical Care Intensivist and nursing staff to ensure patient safety and high-quality care.
Schedule & Floating
- 36 or 48-hour shift options available.
- Floating is mandatory; RNs must be prepared to float frequently to meet staffing needs, including to other units and potentially other campuses within the system.
- Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri night/Sat night).
- Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
Required Qualifications
- License: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license for Nebraska. Pending licenses accepted if in hand at time of submission; otherwise, booking will be delayed.
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of RN experience in a large, urban hospital setting. First-time travelers not accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center.
- Certifications:
- Active AHA Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required
- Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) and NIH Stroke Certification strongly preferred
- Skills:
- Experience with drips required on all floors.
- EPIC electronic charting experience required.
- Other:
- Must be nicotine-free (100% nicotine-free facility).
- Locals not accepted; candidate must live more than 100 miles from the facility.
- Scrubs are mandatory (specific color and style required).
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required.
- Background check within 30 days of start, including nationwide and federal checks.
- Drug screening within 60 days of start and updated annually.
- Immunizations and health documents required: Tdap, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, annual flu vaccine documentation or declination, negative TB test or chest x-ray, physical exam, fit mask test.
- Annual skills checklist and competency exams as applicable.
- References: 2 work references from the past 2 years required.
- COVID vaccination preferred; exemptions accepted.

- Travelers are first to float and must be flexible to meet staffing needs.
- Up to two weeks of time off (RTO) permitted, with restrictions during certain blackout dates.
- Parking permits available for a monthly fee or daily parking options.
- Facility is a 100% nicotine-free environment.
