Job Opportunity: Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) - Inpatient Rehab

Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Per Diem
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide Speech Language Pathology services, floating between UCSF locations.
  • Availability required for 2 weekend day shifts per month.
  • Work shift: Days, 8 hours.
  • Use Epic charting system.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of patient care experience as an SLP.
  • Possession of or eligibility for licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist by the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board of California.
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Master's degree with clinical fellowship (or BS degree if graduated more than 15 years ago).
  • Two supervisory references from the most recent place of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in acute care hospitals and acute rehab/IRF patient care settings.
  • Competence with Modified Barium Swallow Studies and Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing.

Orientation

  • 24-40 hours total (3-5 days at 8 hours per day).
  • Orientation must be completed within 3 weeks from start date.
  • Prefer consecutive orientation dates but can be split if necessary.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License or government photo ID matching professional license.
  • Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Sex Offender Search, and Education Verification.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start including physician statement of fitness to work.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types required).
  • Immunizations and titers: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years), Negative TB or Chest X-Ray (2 tests required), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
  • Drug testing: Standard 9 panel excluding THC, within 30 days of start and every 2 years thereafter.
  • Flu seasonal vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season.
  • COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption required.
  • Annual TB questionnaire and other health screenings as per facility policy.

Additional Requirements

  • Two supervisory references required (preferably from most recent employer).
  • Current and updated resume including last 7 years of work history with explanations for gaps over 30 days.
  • Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually.
  • Pass/Fail Telemetry and Medication competency exams may be required.
  • Completion of UCSF Learning Center modules and facility-specific training prior to or during first week of assignment.
  • Compliance with UCSF COVID-19 preparedness, flu vaccine, and other facility-specific policies.

Notes

  • A 1-year separation period is required before re-hire.
  • Medical and religious exemptions for COVID-19 vaccine are accepted with proper documentation and approval.
  • Scrubs may be provided for certain units; otherwise, uniform guidelines apply.
  • Parking and badge photo requirements must be met prior to start.

This position is ideal for SLPs with acute care or rehab experience who are flexible with floating between locations and weekend availability.
