Job Description

  • Provide nursing care for all Emergency Room patients.
  • Must have at least 2 years of ER nursing experience.
  • Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS (American Heart Association).

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA certified
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA certified
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – AHA certified
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – Current, renewed every 4 years
  • NIH Certification – Updated yearly or every 2 years depending on group
  • Ascension CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) – 8-hour course, updated every 2 years
  • Nursys Verification – Within 30 days prior to start
  • Current Nursing License – Primary source verification within 30 days prior to start
  • Driver’s License/State ID – Valid, must match address requirements

Required Exams & Testing

  • Ascension Pharmacology Exam – Minimum 80% score, updated every 3 years
  • Ascension Core Competencies – Includes HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; minimum 80% score, updated yearly
  • Ascension EKG Exam – Minimum 80% score, two attempts allowed
  • Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen – Includes testing for 12 specified drugs, within 30 days prior to start, updated annually
  • Ascension Skills Checklist – Clinical skills checklist, completed within one year of start and updated annually

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted
  • Varicella – Documented proof of two vaccines, immunity, or history; no declinations accepted
  • Tdap – Valid for 10 years, no declinations accepted
  • Hepatitis B – Vaccination series completion or signed declination
  • Influenza Vaccine – Required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31); exemptions accepted but mask required
  • Fit Test – Required annually for respiratory protection
  • Positive PPD / Negative Chest X-Ray and Annual TB Questionnaire – Documentation required; updated annually
  • 2 Step PPD OR IGRA (Quantiferon/Tspot) – Required within specified timeframes, updated annually
  • Health Statement – Statement of good health or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually

Onboarding & Professional Requirements

  • Ascension Onboarding Requirements Education Attestation
  • Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding – Completed onsite
  • Ascension Profile (Resume) – Required for submission
  • Ascension 2 Professional References – At least two professional references required
  • Ascension Criminal Background Check – Includes SSN trace, employment verification, OIG search, national sex offender check; updated annually
  • Ascension EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) – Run within 90 days of start, rerun if break in service > 90 days
  • Ascension Education Verification – Verification of relevant education within 90 days of start
  • Ascension Employment Verification – Third-party verification for past 7 years, updated annually
  • Ascension Confirmation of Assignment – Provided upon initial assignment and updates for extensions

Additional Notes

  • Flu season mask policy applies even if vaccine exemption is accepted.
  • Forward-facing headshot with white or blue background required for badge photo.
  • Non-violent crisis intervention training is mandatory.
  • All certifications and verifications must be current and compliant with Ascension Health policies.
