Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN)

• Long-Term Assignment (approximately 13 weeks)

Work Schedule

• Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
• Every Other Weekend (EOW)
• 36 hours per week
• Rotating shifts may be required for day positions (7 AM–7 PM, 11 AM–11 PM, 7 PM–7 AM) but night position does not rotate

Unit Description

• 65-bed Emergency Department
• Pod-based layout with separate pediatric pod and separate Acute Mental Health area
• Patient census approximately 230 visits per day
• Clinician to patient ratio: 1:4
• Patient population: All ages

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification

Required Skills

• General Emergency Department nursing skills including:

  • Patient assessment and documentation
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy
  • EKG and cardiac monitoring
  • Point of care testing
  • Splinting
  • Critical thinking
  • Patient education

Certifications Required (must be current and from AHA)

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Preferred Certifications

• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)

Electronic Medical Record System

• EPIC – ASAP

Floating and Rotation

• Floating to other units required
• Rotating shifts required for day positions (low frequency)

Required Onboarding Credentials and Compliance

• Professional license verification (Massachusetts RN license; no conditional licenses accepted; primary source verification required within 30 days of start)
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS certifications (AHA only)
• TNCC strongly preferred and required for onboarding
• Fit Test for N95 respirator within 365 days of start date (no exemptions allowed)
• Respirator Medical Clearance attestation (if fit test required)
• Medication exam with 80% passing score within 365 days
• Advanced Dysrhythmia exam with 80% passing score
• Documentation of immunity or vaccination for MMR (measles, mumps, rubella)
• TB test documentation within 3 months of start date (skin test or blood test) and updated if break >6 months
• Health statement signed by MD/DO/NP/PA within 365 days of start date and updated if break >6 months
• Criminal background check within 45 days prior to start and updated if break >6 months (includes county and international residence history)
• Massachusetts CORI background check within 30 days prior to start and updated if break >6 months
• National sex offender registry check within 30 days prior to start and updated annually
• Exclusion checks (OIG, GSA, MassHealth, NH Medicaid) within 30 days prior to start and annually
• Education verification of highest degree achieved
• Social Security Number trace as part of background check
• Skills checklist completed within 1 year of submission
• Two professional references within 4 years (minimum one supervisor)
• Resume including past 7 years of work experience with city and state
• Candidate submission coversheet required for initial submission

Additional Notes

• Free on-site parking available
• No religious or medical exemptions allowed for N95 fit testing
• Positive TB test requires negative chest x-ray documentation (optional but recommended)
• Name change documentation required if legal name differs from credential documentation
