Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical / Oncology

Location: Albany, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks (open to 8 or 17 weeks)
Shift: 12-hour days (6:45 AM – 7:15 PM)
Hours per Week: Option of 36 or 48 hours (hours not guaranteed during orientation)
Start Date: ASAP
Work Schedule:

  • Rotate weekends every other week
  • Must work 2 out of 3 holidays
  • On-call/call back is rare
  • Break: 30 minutes

Unit & Patient Care Overview

  • 29-bed inpatient combined Oncology and Medical-Surgical unit
  • Med/Surg side cares for clean patients; active infections only if receiving chemotherapy
  • Primary cohort location for patients with Sickle Cell Disease
  • Patient ratios: 1:6 (days and nights)
  • CNA support available (ratios generally 1:8 to 1:10)
  • Float assignments possible to acute care, cardiology, Emergency Center, or nearby campus (1.8 miles away)
  • Mid-shift floats uncommon, only for emergent needs

Required Qualifications

  • Georgia or compact RN license
  • Minimum 2+ years recent experience on an Oncology/Medical-Surgical unit
  • Completed at least 1 prior travel assignment (no new travelers)
  • Certifications:
    • Chemotherapy certification
    • AHA BLS
    • AHA NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Preferred certification: AHA ACLS
  • Education: Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • EMR experience: Meditech Expanse required (HCA Meditech experience not accepted)

Clinical Skills & Experience

  • Confident managing high acuity pain, especially related to Sickle Cell Disease crises
  • Experience with PCA pumps, frequent pain reassessment, and escalation of pain control barriers
  • Peripheral IV insertion
  • Sickle Cell management
  • Tracheostomy care and management

Additional Requirements

  • No return-to-office (RTO) within 2 weeks of start date and no more than 7 total days of RTO allowed
  • Must comply with a 75-mile radius rule
  • Uniform: Caribbean blue or white scrub colors

This position is ideal for experienced Oncology/Medical-Surgical RNs comfortable with complex pain management and high-acuity patient care in a fast-paced inpatient setting.
