Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry

Location: Newburgh, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week (except during holidays when unit is closed)

Unit & Patient Population

• Cardiac Renal Unit, 34 beds
• Patient ratio:

  • Days: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:6-7
• Patient types include post-cardiac procedure (heart cath, ablation, pacemaker), A-fib RVR, ESRD, CHF, sepsis, tracheostomies, nephrostomy tubes/CBI/renal biopsy, behavioral health/detox

Job Responsibilities & Requirements

• Float within skillset to nearby campuses (8-11 miles away) with 2-hour notice; mid-shift float possible but cross-campus mid-shift float is unlikely
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks; every other holiday
• May be required to precept students and new hires
• Must wear navy blue scrubs without competing health system or agency logos
• Strict attendance policy: 3 call-ins may result in termination

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of strong cardiac/telemetry nursing experience
• At least 1 prior travel assignment completed
• Trauma Level II experience
• Current active compact RN license
• Certifications: AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Recent EPIC charting experience (checkoff class required)
• Ability to pass telemetry tests (12-lead EKG interpretation required)
• Skills in:

  • Recovery of heart caths (femoral/TR bands)
  • PIV insertion
  • Chest tube/indwelling drain management
  • Drip management (cardiac meds like Cardizem, amiodarone; others like heparin, lasix, protonix)
  • Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
  • Detox/CIWA protocol experience
  • Central line care
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills

• No local candidates within 40-mile radius considered
• Orientation occurs bi-weekly starting 6/1
