Registered Nurse – ER Pediatrics

Location: Norfolk, Virginia
Employment Type: Long Term
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour night shifts, 36 hours guaranteed weekend work, plus rotating holidays

Job Description

Provide nursing care in a Pediatric Emergency Room setting
Nurse-to-patient ratio approximately 1:4
Unit size: 31 to 40 beds/rooms/bays
Use of ancillary staff including Tech and LPN/LVN support
Common patient diagnoses: Asthma, Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), Neonates with fever, Sickle Cell Disease
Special procedures include moderate sedation, breathing treatments, chest tube setup and care, CPAP/BiPAP, home ventilators, high-frequency ventilators, procedural sedation, rapid sequence intubation drugs, trach care, ventilator management
Additional skills: blood/blood product administration, cardioversion/defibrillation, cooling/warming blanket use, central venous pressure monitoring, 12-lead EKG interpretation, rapid transfusions
Lines and devices cared for: drains, triple lumen catheters, Port-A-Cath/vascular device access and care, PICC/central lines, PCA pumps, feeding tubes
Critical care exposure: burns, cardiac, medical, neurological, PICU, surgical, transplant, trauma
Medical-surgical exposure: general, hematology/oncology, orthopedic

Required Qualifications

Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Emergency Room (ER) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI)
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
