Role Overview
- NICU RN
- Level 3 NICU
- 60 total private rooms, with capability to expand to 65 patients
- 40 designated NICU rooms and 20 intermediate beds
Required Qualifications
- Active IL license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- BLS
- NRP
- Negative drug screen for all panels
Preferred Qualifications
- Level 3/4 ICU experience
- Micro preemie care
Clinical Details
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: NICU 1:1-3; NIC 1:3-4
- RNs are required to titrate drips per orders
- Common drips: Fentanyl, Morphine, Precedex
- Common patient types include 22 weeks and up, abdominal defects, pre-cardiac repair, PPHN, CDH, and other genetic defects
- Conventional vents, oscillator ventilator, JET ventilator, CPAP, Nasal IMV, Heated High Flow, and Tracheostomy are used on the unit
- All patients are monitored, but the unit does not do Tele
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts
- Self-scheduling
- Block scheduling allowed
- Shift times: 0700-1930 and 1900-1930
- Every other weekend required for dayshift; night weekend expectations depend on facility needs
- Holiday coverage required as needed
- No current call requirement
Float Scope
- Travelers are first to float
- May float to PICU, PIC, Peds, Nursery, sitter, BHM, and adult world
Unit Notes
- Charge RN in NICU and NIC only takes patient assignments if staffing gaps
- Free transport RN available 24/7
- House supervisor available 24/7
- PCTs are used on the unit
- Neonatologist in house 24/7, with 2-3 APNs 24/7 and resident/fellow coverage
- No specific scrub color requirement
- No fake nails, nail polish, or jewelry/watches
- Unit-specific orientation is 1-2 days
