PICU RN - 3W Travel Opportunity

Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Required Certifications

• BLS (AHA)
• PALS (AHA)
• TNCC preferred but not required

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 1 year of PICU nursing experience (highest required)
• Prior travel experience is not required (open to first-time travelers and travel duos)

Unit Details

• Unit Type: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
• Beds: 8 beds (average census 4-5)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:1 or 1:2 depending on patient acuity
• Common Patient Diagnoses: Respiratory issues, DKA, traumas (MVAs, head traumas, broken bones), surgical patients, neurological (seizures), overdoses, suicide attempts

Skills and Responsibilities

• Must have experience with:

  • Intubated patients
  • Running drips (cardiac, insulin, heparin, sedation)
  • Sedations
  • ICP monitoring
  • EVDs
  • Emergency situations
• RNs are required to titrate drips
• Nurses draw their own labs
• Charge nurse takes assignments and modifies as able
• No nurse aides on the unit; RNs perform all patient care
• RNs read and interpret their own telemetry strips (no tele/monitor techs)

Support and Resources

• Pediatric intensivist not in-house but available within 10 minutes
• Residents present 24/7
• Respiratory therapy equipment includes vents, CPAP, BiPAP, Nava, vapotherm, heliox

Scheduling and Work Environment

• Shift Length: 12-hour night shifts
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling with a tiered approach; block scheduling not allowed
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating: May float to NICU if experienced; may observe in adult areas depending on census
• Dress Code: Clean, professional, pediatric appropriate

Orientation

• 1 day general hospital orientation
• 2 days unit-specific orientation

Additional Notes:

• Clinicians who have previously worked at this facility must have ended employment at least 6 months prior to submission.
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility.
