Job Opportunity: RN - Neuro Med-Surg Acute
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Department: Neuro Med-Surg Acute
- Beds: 54 (2 semi-private)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Day shift: 1:4-5
- Night shift: 1:5-6
- Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs Ratios:
- Days & Evenings: 1:9-10
- Nights: 1:10-12
- Telemetry: House-wide telemetry with Phillips monitors; nurses do not read strips
- Respiratory Equipment: High flow oxygen for stable COVID patients (rare); RNs troubleshoot only
Required Certifications & Skills
- BLS (AHA)
- NIHSS certification
- Level 1 trauma experience required
- Heparin drip titration experience (based on PTT)
- Prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit
- Prior travel experience required (no first-time travelers)
- RNs are required to titrate drips
Patient Population
- Stroke
- Spine surgery
- Seizure
- Brain tumor
- Head injury
- Various neuroscience cases
- Some medical overflow patients
Scheduling & Work Environment
- 12-hour shifts, one shift per day
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- Holiday requirement: Every other holiday
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating: Float in rotation with staff; travelers may float to general unit or other units only if competent and paired with trained nurse
- Orientation: 2 days unit-specific orientation with educator and preceptor
- Dress code: No scrub color requirement; tattoos must be covered; no piercings except ears
Leadership & Support
- Charge nurse on duty 24/7 (generally does not take patient assignment unless short staffed)
- House supervisor on duty 24/7
Additional Notes
- Local placements accepted within 50-mile radius
- Drug-free campus; negative drug screen required
- Active Illinois RN license required or application process initiated
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license
- Minimum years of specialty experience: Not explicitly stated, but must have prior travel experience and neuro unit experience (implies at least 1 year or more)
