Medical Laboratory Technician

Location: State College, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Primarily evening shift with weekend rotation; 5 x 8-hour shifts per week
Hours per Week: 40

Overview

Performs laboratory analyses on blood and other body fluids to support diagnosis and treatment. Works across all clinical departments of the laboratory and is responsible for accurate, timely specimen processing and reporting.

Required Qualifications

• Medical Lab Technician experience within the last year
• Medical Lab Technician (1 year of experience)
• Medical Technologist experience
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
• MT(ASCP) or MT(AMT) or MT(NCCLS)
• MLS(ASCP) or MLS(AMT) or MLS(NCCLS)

Experience

• No previous experience required

Preferred Experience

• Blood bank experience
• Microbiology experience

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, process, and analyze specimens accurately and according to established procedures
• Verify patient identification before specimen collection
• Review results for accuracy and completeness before release
• Follow quality control, safety, infection control, and quality assurance procedures
• Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and reagents
• Assist with troubleshooting, training, proficiency testing, and implementation of new procedures or products
