Job Opportunity: RN ICU - Travel Position

Location: Waco, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Minimum of 3 years ICU experience required.
  • Work in a conglomerate ICU unit covering medical, surgical, and cardiovascular patients.
  • Must be able to float between ICU and step-down critical care service lines.

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • BLS (AHA required)
  • ACLS (AHA required)
  • Current RN license with Nursys verification within 30 days prior to start.
  • License/Certificate primary source verification within 30 days prior to start.

Required Exams & Competencies

  • Ascension Specialty Exam (passing score minimum 80%, updated every 3 years)
  • Ascension Color Vision test (updated every 3 years)
  • Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; updated yearly, minimum 80% score)
  • NIH Certification (updated yearly or every 2 years depending on group)
  • Ascension EKG Exam (passing score minimum 80%, updated as new editions released)
  • Ascension Epic Test-Out (required)
  • Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical skills, updated annually)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • MMR: Proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted.
  • Influenza Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31); exemptions accepted but mask required.
  • Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination.
  • Positive PPD or IGRA with negative chest X-ray and annual TB questionnaire.
  • 2 Step PPD or IGRA within 90 days of start.
  • Varicella: Proof of immunity or two doses of vaccine; no declinations accepted.
  • Tdap: Valid within last 10 years; no declinations accepted.
  • Fit Test: Required annually; preferred prior to start.
  • Health Statement or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.

Background & Screening Requirements

  • Criminal Background Check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender, and other checks within 30 days of assignment start; updated annually or after breaks in service.
  • EPLS check within 90 days of start; rerun if break in service > 90 days.
  • 12 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days prior to start; includes amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana, PCP, methamphetamine, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, buprenorphine, methadone, oxycodone, morphine, and ecstasy.
  • Employment Verification for past 7 years; updated annually or after breaks in service.
  • Education Verification within 90 days of start.
  • Professional References: At least two required prior to first assignment.

Additional Requirements

  • Driver’s License/State ID valid and matching address requirements.
  • Resume/Profile submission required.
  • Completion of onboarding education and attestations prior to or at start.
  • Completion of various Ascension-specific checklists and surveys as part of onboarding and post-assignment processes.

Notes

  • Flu season mask policy applies from October 1, 2024 through March 31, 2025.
  • No explicit mention of prior travel experience required.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable working in a dynamic critical care environment with multiple patient populations and flexible floating responsibilities.
