Job Opportunity: Temporary Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health Inpatient (Nights)

Location: Glens Falls, New York
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work in an adult and geriatric behavioral health inpatient unit with an average daily census of 20 patients.
  • RN to patient ratio approximately 1:9 (depending on census).
  • Average patient stay length: 5-7 days.
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system: EPIC (EPIC experience required).
  • Shift: Nights.
  • Dress code: Personal scrubs of any color (no designs, cartoons, or hoodies).
  • Non-billable orientation: 8 hours.
  • No call required.
  • Cancellation policy: Facility may cancel up to 5 shifts per 13-week contract with 2 hours’ notice.

Required Qualifications

  • License: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in New York State.
  • Minimum 2+ years of Behavioral Health Unit experience.
  • Experience with pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients.
  • Recent travel experience required (prior travel experience explicitly required).
  • Experience and training in de-escalation techniques for agitated patients (CPI, NAPPI, or Welle certifications required).
  • Must have reliable personal transportation (own vehicle required).
  • EPIC EMR experience required.
  • Must be reliable with no attendance concerns or call-outs.

Compliance and Screening Requirements

  • New York Temporary Health Care Service Agency License/Registration Certificate must be provided upfront.
  • Negative 14-panel drug screen required within 24 hours of offer acceptance, including testing for:
    • Amphetamines (including methamphetamine, MDMA, MDA)
    • Barbiturates
    • Benzodiazepines
    • Cocaine Metabolite
    • Opiates (including codeine, morphine, oxycodone, oxymorphone, hydrocodone, hydromorphone)
    • Phencyclidine
    • Methadone
    • Methaqualone
    • Propoxyphene
    • Buprenorphine
    • 6-Acetylmorphine
  • COVID vaccinations are not required but strongly encouraged.
  • De-escalation training must be completed as part of onboarding (verbal de-escalation training from approved providers required).

Additional Profile Requirements

  • Work history and skills checklist current within 1 year.
  • One supervisory signed reference from within the past two years.
  • Current licenses and certifications (Nursys, BLS, CPI) must be uploaded with profile.
  • Permanent address must be included and must match driver’s license/state ID; address will be validated during compliance.
  • Candidates from certain New York counties (Albany, Columbia, Dutchess, Fulton, Greene, Montgomery, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Ulster, Warren, Washington) are not eligible for this assignment.

Patient Population

  • Adult and Geriatric behavioral health patients.

Notes

  • Requested time off during the assignment must be noted and verified at profile upload; no requests after upload will be approved.
  • No more than 5 days of requested time off will be accepted (less is preferred).

This position is ideal for experienced behavioral health RNs with recent travel experience who are comfortable working nights in an inpatient setting and have strong de-escalation skills.
