Registered Nurse (RN) - Stepdown (Nights)

Unit Overview

• Work on a 28-bed Medical Surgical Stepdown Unit (Level 2 North) with a diverse patient population including general and vascular surgery, bariatric surgery, plastic surgery, trauma, and stroke patients.
• Fast-paced environment focused on patient safety, quality care, and positive patient outcomes.
• Collaborative interdisciplinary care team using clinical pathways, patient education, and interactive communication.
• Active Unit Based Council promoting teamwork and a healthy work environment.
• Orientation and support provided for new team members to grow professionally.

Role Summary

• Provide care for cardiovascular patients including those undergoing PTCA, stents, TAVR, MitraClip, bi-ventricular pacemakers, and post-open heart surgery (18-24 hours post-op).
• Manage patients with congestive heart failure and electrophysiology studies.
• Participate in clinical trials managed by the research department.
• The unit has received recognition for excellence in critical care nursing and cardiac care.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Michigan
• Minimum 1 year of Cardiac Stepdown nursing experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Prior travel nursing experience
• Stepdown nursing experience
• Proficiency in cardiac care and comfort with EKG interpretation
• Flexibility to float to similar units as needed

Attendance Policy

• Strict 3-strike attendance policy: termination after 3 absences or being more than 20 minutes late for scheduled shifts, unless excused for communicable disease or hospitalization with documentation.
• Policy effective starting June 1, 2024.

Additional Notes

• Full-time employees of the health system are not eligible for contract hire within six months of employment.
• Physical copies of certifications are only required if specifically listed.
• References are not required.
• Local traveler policy applies: those living within 35 miles of the facility are considered local travelers.
