Respiratory Therapist (RRT) – Travel/Contract Position

Location: Roanoke, Virginia

Shift: Nights, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), 4x12 available by request
Hours per Week: 36-48 hours

Job Overview

• Provide respiratory therapy services for adults in a high-volume Emergency Room at a Level 1 Trauma Center.
• Patient population includes adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
• Must have critical care experience including Neurotrauma, cardiovascular services, and medical/surgical ICU patients.
• Floating within skillset required.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Virginia.
• Minimum of 1 year of recent Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year.
• Current ACLS certification.
• Current BLS certification.
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.

Scheduling & Work Requirements

• Typical schedule: 3 twelve-hour night shifts per week (7 PM to 7 AM).
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week block.
• Must work at least one holiday during the 13-week contract.
• Facility allows calling off 1 shift per 2 weeks.

Documentation & Compliance Requirements

Background & Verification

• 7-year background check required within 1 year of start date; must cover all locations lived/worked in past 7 years.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals.
• Education verification of highest earned degree required; transcript or diploma must be provided.
• Two clinical references required (hospital evaluations accepted).
• Complete employment application/resume required.
• Skills checklist must be updated annually.

Health & Safety

• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming freedom from communicable diseases.
• Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 1 year; annual updates required. If past positive, clear chest X-ray within 1 year and annual TB questionnaire required.
• Fit test for respirator masks within 1 year, updated annually.
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
• Required immunizations or positive titers for: Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
• Seasonal flu vaccination documentation or signed declination form required.

Facility-Specific Documents

• Professional photo for badge (plain background, no selfies or filters).
• Completion of new hire paperwork and compliance checklists prior to start.
• Acknowledgement of orientation manual and HIPAA requirements.
• Drivers License/State ID with an address within 100 miles of the facility required within 48 hours of signing.
• E-Verify or attestation required.

Unit & Equipment Details

• Patient-to-therapist ratio approximately 1:25.
• Robust Assess and Treat protocols with ventilator management and liberation policies in place.
• Equipment used includes Servo I, Servo U, V-60 BiPAP, Optiflow heated high flow, iNO with iNOvent, and LTV1200 ventilators.

Additional Notes

• Locals are not accepted due to radius restrictions.
• Prior travel experience preferred but not mandatory; first-time travelers are welcome.
• Must submit all requests for time off with application.
