Registered Nurse - NICU (Night Shift)
Location: Oakland, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), 3 shifts per week (36 hours/week)
- Unit: Level 3 & 4 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience required
- Must be willing and able to float to other units and facilities as needed
- Preferred: Pediatric experience
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) experience, with NICU experience within the last year
- Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Certifications (must be issued by the American Heart Association):
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, Sex Offender Search, and Education Verification
- Primary source verification of California RN license within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start including physician statement of fitness to work
- Drug testing: Standard 9-panel (excluding THC) within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years
- Immunizations and titers required (with documentation including DOB and valid ranges):
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years, no declinations accepted except medical exemptions)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella (IGG titer or 2 vaccines; history of disease not accepted)
- Tuberculosis (TB) testing: Two negative tests required (one within 1 year, one within 3 months of start) or chest X-ray if positive TB history
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific approved masks required), with onsite fit testing available as last resort
- Annual TB questionnaire required within 30 days of start
- Flu vaccine or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov-April) if onsite over 10 days
- COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended but not required
Training & Competency Requirements
- Pass/Fail Telemetry exam on first day of orientation (3 attempts allowed) for applicable units
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with passing score of 80% or higher within 1 year prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exam with passing score of 80% or higher within 12 months prior to start
- Core Parts I, II, and III competency exams with passing score of 80% or higher, updated annually
- UCSF-specific learning modules must be completed before Day 1 for Tuesday starts; other start days complete during orientation
- Cyber Security Awareness Training and Quiz (passing score 80%+) required annually
- HIPAA Healthcare Provider Module and Quiz required for clinical staff (passing score 80%+)
Additional Requirements
- Two supervisory references required from most recent or second most recent employer; charge nurses acceptable
- Current and updated resume including last 7 years of work history; gaps of 30+ days must be explained
- Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually
- Willingness to comply with facility-specific policies including parking, uniform, and COVID-19 preparedness updates
- Completion of emergency contact information form
Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
- Floating to other units within the health system is mandatory
- All certifications must be from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) as specified
