Job Opportunity: Cath Lab Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Lexington, Kentucky
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Description
- Call required with a 30-minute callback time.
- Call schedule includes:
- 1 late shift per week
- 1 call shift per week
- 1-2 call weekends every 6 weeks
- Floating to Electrophysiology (EP) lab as needed, including late call when assigned.
- Experience with diagnostic and interventional heart catheterizations, structural implants, hemodynamics, and conscious sedation required.
- Level 1 trauma experience preferred.
- Local travelers within 75 miles are not accepted.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of cath lab experience.
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) Certification
- Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Kentucky, verified within 30 days of start.
- Additional Certifications (may be required depending on unit):
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) for Labor & Delivery
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- Chemotherapy certification (if applicable)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) Blue Card
- Certification for conscious sedation competency
- Competency Exams: Must pass required unit-specific competency exams, medication/pharmacology exams, math ability exams, and EKG/dysrhythmia pass/fail testing with a minimum passing score of 80%.
- Background Checks: Must have current background checks including county and national criminal searches, sex offender search, education verification, and EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG exclusions checks.
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good health and ability to perform job duties.
- Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year, updated annually.
- Immunizations and titers: TDAP (within 10 years), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination), Flu seasonal vaccination/documentation, COVID vaccine or approved exemption.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray with annual renewal and TB questionnaire if history positive.
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, updated annually (lab-based, no rapid screens).
- References: Two supervisor references verified within 6 months of start, preferably from direct supervisors.
- Employment History: Verification of 7 years of employment required; any gaps over 30 days must be explained.
- Skills Checklists: Must complete required skills checklists annually without expiration during contract.
- Facility Policies: Must sign confidentiality, acceptable use, electronic communications, and password policies prior to start.
Additional Notes
- Candidates must have a renewal plan in place for any certifications or documents expiring during the contract to maintain clearance.
- Pass/fail EKG exam is mandatory and must be passed within two attempts; failure results in cancellation.
- Candidates must initiate background checks within 48 hours of contract signing if prior checks do not meet requirements.
- Floating to EP lab and taking late call shifts there is part of the job expectations.
This position is ideal for experienced cath lab RNs who meet the certification and licensure requirements and are comfortable with call responsibilities and floating within cardiac specialties.
