Registered Nurse – Med/Surg Telemetry (Travel/Contract)
Location: Akron, Ohio
Shift: Night, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on a Medical/Surgical Telemetry unit during night shifts.
- Must have a minimum of 18 months recent permanent Med/Surg Telemetry experience prior to travel assignment.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 18 months (1.5 years) of Med Surg / Telemetry experience, with experience within the last year.
- At least 18 months of total travel nursing experience.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (e.g., Driver’s License or State ID).
- Background check including:
- FCRA compliant 7-year search (SSN trace, counties, states, nationwide, sex offender, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, education verification).
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks.
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting within 12 months, updated annually. Must be completed under nursing code 4723.09. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to safely perform job functions. Latex allergy notification required if applicable.
- Fit mask test (3M N95 1860 small/regular or 1870+), valid within 12 months and updated annually. PAPRs not provided for facial hair failure unless approved exemption submitted.
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap vaccine every 10 years (no declinations accepted).
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 12 months or chest X-ray if past positive. Annual TB questionnaire if applicable.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer required; booster if titers negative/equivocal.
- Hepatitis B: titer, series, or declination with agency-approved exemption.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal.
- Annual flu vaccination required during flu season (no declinations accepted). Medical/religious exemptions require agency approval and facility review.
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually. Instant drug screens not accepted.
- Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year, updated annually unless currently on assignment without break.
Onboarding & Orientation Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome; video must be watched before test).
- Baseline competency exams in medication administration and ECG interpretation required at orientation (90% passing for medication, 80% for ECG). Not required for legacy candidates with less than 6 months gap since last assignment at this facility.
- Core competency training (Core Part I, II, III) required annually.
- Resume/CV with 3 years prior work history including at least 2 years clinical acute care experience in a similar area.
- Two professional references from within the last year, from a manager, supervisor, or director (co-worker references not accepted).
Additional Notes
- Candidates can start with fingerprinting results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
- Candidates returning with less than a 6-month break between assignments at this facility may have some orientation requirements waived.
- All documentation must be current and valid at the time of assignment start.
- Facility accommodates latex allergies with notification.
- Religious and medical exemptions for vaccines and fit mask are accepted but require agency and facility approval.
