Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Tyler, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule
- Day shift, Monday to Friday
- 4 shifts per week, 10 hours each (6:30 AM – 5:00 PM)
- One day off plus call
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 1.5 years of Registered Nurse experience
- Prior travel experience required (must have completed at least one prior travel contract)
- Experience in Orthopedics, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular, and Urology required
- Preferred experience with Da Vinci Robots, endovascular procedures, and ophthalmology is a bonus
- Charting experience with Epic electronic health record system
Licensure & Certifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license for Texas (primary source online verification required)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required as applicable
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure), CHEMO, TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course), CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute), NIH Stroke Certification, and Management of Assaultive Behavior certifications required as applicable
Compliance & Background Requirements
- 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Verification includes Social Security trace, county searches for last 7 years, nationwide sex offender check, and education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required upon hire
- Education verification required; transcript or diploma may be accepted temporarily if verification is pending
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 90 days of start
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, must be renewed annually
- Adult Tdap vaccine within 10 years of start (no declinations except approved medical exemptions)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year of start; additional requirements if positive
- Immunization or positive titer documentation required for Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, and Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
Documentation & Other Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID
- E-Verify compliance (internal requirement)
- Photo for badge (clear headshot)
- Completed employment application/resume
- Unit-specific skills checklist required annually
- 7-year work history verification required
- Core competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency testing as applicable
- Color blindness test (online version accepted)
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment and HIPAA compliance documentation
Additional Notes
- Candidates residing in certain Texas counties are not eligible for this travel assignment (including but not limited to Henderson, Anderson, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, Smith, Gregg, Van Zandt, Wood, Upshur, Camp, Hopkins, Franklin, Titus, and Morris)
- Fingerprinting and additional onboarding requirements apply for New Mexico placements only (not applicable here)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Texas
- Minimum 1.5 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one prior travel assignment
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience in Orthopedics, Neurology, Vascular Surgery, and Urology
