Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract
Location: Wilmington, North Carolina
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Summary
- Night shift: 18:45 - 07:15 (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 36 hours/week)
- Patient ratio: 1:6
- Float requirement: May be required to float to a nearby main campus (~32 minutes away)
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- No call requirement
- Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days
- Must be able to work holidays
- Contract staff may be assigned to Storm/Hurricane Teams and may be required to report during catastrophic events or disasters
- Orientation: 24 hours
- Scrubs: Navy blue or white
Patient Population / Diagnoses
Includes but not limited to:
- Diabetes, dementia, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, sepsis, encephalopathy
- GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, congestive heart failure (CHF), urinary tract infection (UTI)
- Various surgical recovery cases, renal failure, hypertension, cellulitis, failure to thrive
Required Skills & Experience
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Valid Driver's License

- Telemetry (on-unit monitoring)
- Post angiogram, post cardiac surgery, post myocardial infarction (MI) care
- IV insulin protocols
- Bariatric surgery care
- Continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
- Accessing/managing ports
- Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) care
- Substance withdrawal management
- Surgical drains care
- Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Pre/Post thoracic surgery care
- Tracheostomy care/management
- Previous charge nurse experience
- Electronic documentation proficiency
- Community hospital experience
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
Licensing
- Must hold an active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in North Carolina
Testing & Competencies
- Must pass EKG/Dysrhythmia competency exam prior to start (minimum score 82%, three attempts allowed)
- Color blindness testing required within 1 year prior to start
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required for new contracts
- Other competency exams as applicable
Scheduling & Orientation
- Self-scheduling
- Orientation duration: 24 hours
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Must be able to work a maximum of 7 days return to office (RTO) per contract
- No block schedules except weekend blocks
- Photo ID required (passport or driver’s license) for badge creation
- Must submit various compliance and background documents including:
- Background check within 6 months for clinical candidates
- Drug screening within 6 months (9-panel acceptable)
- Immunizations and titers (TB, Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella) as per facility requirements
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption with mask requirement
- Must complete facility-specific education and compliance training modules prior to start
- Must complete Non-Novant Health Worker Clinical Education Checklist (for NC travel candidates)
- Must complete Medication Safety training and submit certificate of completion
- Must complete confidentiality agreement and hospital policies acknowledgment
- Must complete annual compliance training and other state-specific mandatory education if applicable
- Must provide proof of logging into facility’s learning management system (I-Learn) within 24 hours of account setup
- Radiation badge required only if applicable to specialty (not required for this role)
Uniform & Appearance
- Navy blue or white scrubs
- Photo for badge must be passport style, on solid white background, facing forward, business appropriate attire, no head coverings except glasses
Summary
This is a 16-week travel Registered Nurse position on a Med/Surg Telemetry unit working night shifts with a 1:6 patient ratio. The role requires a minimum of 2 years RN experience with strong telemetry and dysrhythmia management skills. First-time travelers are accepted. The position includes floating to a nearby main campus and requires flexibility for disaster response. Multiple certifications and compliance requirements must be met prior to start.
