Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Job Summary

  • Must have prior travel nursing experience.
  • Licensed to work in Missouri and Kansas.
  • Position in a cardiac clinic.
  • Schedule: 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts.
  • Provide illness management and health promotion for patients and families.
  • Deliver safe, high-quality, comprehensive, and age-appropriate nursing care.
  • Educate patients and families and advocate for their needs.
  • Coordinate patient care with nonprofessional personnel as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess patients’ physiological, psychosocial, safety, and education needs.
  • Develop and implement care plans based on patient diagnosis and nursing needs.
  • Evaluate patient and family responses to interventions and adjust care plans accordingly.
  • Document assessments, interventions, evaluations, and progress in patient records.
  • Delegate nursing care based on staff qualifications and patient needs.
  • Communicate assignments and responsibilities effectively.
  • Provide care for patients requiring inpatient dialysis/apheresis and those pre-, peri-, and post-liver and kidney transplant (5 Sutherland and PICU units).

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or HeartCode accepted; RQI not accepted.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only; RQI not accepted.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA only; required for all RNs except Case Managers.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – AHA 8th Edition Advanced Certification, as required.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – Required for ER/Peds ER.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement.
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing (for RNs only).
  • State License Verification (Primary Source Verification).
  • NURSYS Verification (for all RNs).
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) – 100% required on medication calculation/dosage test during orientation (3 attempts allowed).
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – Required for Behavioral Health Techs and RNs going to Crisis Center (not required for 5 West Behavioral Health RNs).

Required Background Checks and Verifications

  • Background check within 3 months of start, including all counties worked or lived in past 7 years, sex offender search, and statewide searches for Missouri and Kansas.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start, updated every 6 months.
  • HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start, updated every 6 months.
  • Missouri Highway Patrol Check (MO only).
  • E-Verify or Attestation proof.

Required Health Documents and Immunizations

  • Physical exam (initial and annual) confirming ability to meet physical demands.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination within 10 years of start.
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray (2-step PPD or equivalent). TB questionnaire updated annually.
  • Proof of immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (3 vaccines, titer, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption (declinations not accepted).
  • COVID-19 vaccine currently not required.
  • Respiratory Safety Clearance or Respirator Questionnaire (as applicable).

Competency and Skills Requirements

  • Pediatric pharmacology competency exam (not required for Case Managers).
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all clinical candidates).
  • Pediatric competency exam (required as this is a pediatric facility).
  • Pediatric skills checklist when applicable.

Additional Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID) must be carried during hours of service.
  • Residency Declaration Form if working on a compact license.
  • Facility-specific forms including health form, TB questionnaire, medication review packet, and time-sensitive contract forms must be completed prior to or shortly after start.
  • References: 2 supervisory references or performance evaluations within 1 year of start.
  • Performance evaluation if employed with agency for over 12 months.
  • Employment application/resume.
  • Internal evaluation if worked with agency over 2 years.
  • Facility parking permit request must be completed prior to start.

Work Environment

  • Pediatric cardiac clinic setting with inpatient dialysis/apheresis and transplant patient care.
  • Collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and nonprofessional personnel.

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs licensed in Missouri and Kansas who are comfortable working in a pediatric cardiac clinic environment and meet the comprehensive certification, health, and compliance requirements.
