Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)

Location: Anchorage, Alaska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 0645-1715 or 0845-1915 depending on unit needs
  • Weekend Requirement: Must work either Saturday or Sunday every weekend
  • On-call: Yes, required; weekends based on unit needs
  • Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
  • Guaranteed Hours: Up to 36 hours; 12-hour OR nurses scheduled for an additional 4 hours to cover breaks/lunches, guaranteeing 40 hours per week
  • Local Radius Rule: No locals accepted within 100 miles
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • First-timers Accepted: Yes

Required Experience & Skills

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Operating Room)
  • Special Requirements:
    • Robotic surgery experience required
    • Knowledge of code response, fire safety, malignant hyperthermia, electrosurgical equipment, arthroscopes, laparoscopes
    • Some trauma experience required

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • License: Valid Alaska RN license required (out-of-state compact license accepted with facility approval and proof of Alaska application)
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) required for Operating Room
  • Other:
    • Fit test with approved facility mask within 1 year of start (must be renewed annually)
    • Physical exam (renewed annually)
    • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
    • Immunizations and titers: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
    • COVID-19 vaccine required (initial series or J&J dose plus seasonal/bi-valent vaccine)
    • Eye exam (Snellen) and Color Blind exam (Ishihara) required for OR specialty
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 1)

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete facility-specific onboarding tasks and documentation prior to start
  • Background checks including SS trace and county searches for last 7 years
  • References: 2 clinical references required
  • Clinical skills checklist required
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology competency
  • Compliance with facility-specific forms and agreements (e.g., confidentiality, badge form)
