Job Description

• Facility requires coverage through Mardi Gras; minimize time off requests from 2/13 to 2/22.
• Preferred experience with Impella and NxStage devices due to patient population.
• Patient ratio typically 1:2, sometimes flexes to 1:3.
• Weekend shifts required: 4 weekends per 4-week schedule.
• No call required.
• Floating required: Nurses will float to all ICUs and may float to ED or PACU to care for ICU patients; occasional float to MS/PCU units with 1:4 patient ratios.
• Nurses perform all lab sticks, EKGs, and line starts.
• Equipment used includes Alaris IV Pumps, CADD PCA pumps, Servo I ventilators, Fresenius CRRT Dialysis machines, Edwards Lifesciences cardiac monitors, Medtronic EVD Management Systems, Arctic Sun TMS, GE Monitors, Hill Rom Beds, Pyxis Medication Station, and Veratron Bladder Scanner.
• Must be able to care for COVID-19 isolation patients; know your N95 mask size.
• Return to work (RTO) limited to 5 days total.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience.
• Epic electronic health record experience required.
• Certifications required:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) — can be obtained onsite within 30 days if not already certified.
  • NIH Stroke Certification
• Must have a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Louisiana.
• Ability to float across multiple units including ICU, ED, PACU, MS/PCU.
• Must be able to care for isolation patients, including COVID-19.

Schedule

• 1:2 patient ratio (sometimes 1:3)
• 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• No call required

Additional Requirements

• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years.
• Drug screening within 30 days of start.
• Immunizations and health documents required, including:

  • Tdap within 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility policy
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption/declination
• Employment application with 7 years of work history, no gaps over 30 days.
• Competency exams and annual updates required (medication, dysrhythmia/EKG, core competencies).

Notes

• CPI certification may be completed onsite for candidates not already certified (cost approx. $50).
• Facility uses a variety of advanced ICU equipment; familiarity preferred.
• Floating to multiple units is mandatory.
• Must be prepared to work during Mardi Gras with limited time off.
