Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity
Location: Colchester, Vermont
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Hospice/Home Health)
Contract Length: 20 weeks
Job Description
- Hospice RN role, primarily working Thursday through Sunday
- Call coverage is rare but may be required occasionally
- No time off available in March; limited or no time off in April
- Requires excellent typing skills due to narrative-heavy EMR
- Responsibilities include:
- Complex symptom management and education in hospice/end-of-life care
- Symptom assessment and management requiring high-level critical thinking
- Initiating and participating in goals of care discussions with patients, families, and team
- Medication management and administration via multiple routes (IV, subcutaneous, oral, sublingual, rectal, etc.)
- Schedule: Monday to Sunday availability required; no block schedules allowed
- Bi-weekly orientations on Mondays
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of prior community hospice experience required
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
Certifications & Licenses
- AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on unit/job
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required depending on unit/job
- State RN license verification required within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification required within 30 days of start and updated annually
Background & Compliance
- Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Education verification based on job requirements
- Drug testing may be required depending on facility location
- COVID-19 vaccination or declination required
- Flu vaccination or exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
- Other immunizations required or documentation of immunity:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (updated annually)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B series and titer or signed declination
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- N95 Fit Test required prior to assignment and updated annually
Additional Requirements
- Reliable personal or rental vehicle strongly recommended (public transportation not accessible)
- Vehicles should have all-season or snow tires from November through April
- Complete and explain all employment gaps over 30 days
- Must complete required facility-specific modules (EPIC, Cornerstone) prior to start
- Must comply with facility dress code and telephone usage policies
- Must complete Vermont Adult and Child Abuse Registry Consent Form (for Vermont placements)
- Must provide a passport-style photo for badge two weeks prior to start
- Must complete physical exam within 12 months of start date
Work History & References
- 2 years of most recent clinical work history verification required
- 2 professional references from assignments within the last 3 years required
- Skills checklist within 12 months required
