Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Neuro

Job Description

• Work options: 36 or 48-hour shifts; 13 or 26-week contract options
• Specialty: Mixed Acuity (Medical Surgical/Telemetry & Stepdown)
• Unit: 48-bed unit specializing in Neurology and Neurosurgery
• Patient population includes strokes, aneurysms, seizures, spinal fusions, brain and spinal cord tumors, and other neurological conditions
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • Med Surg/Telemetry: 1:5 (days), 1:6 (nights), occasionally 1:7 nights
  • Stepdown: 1:3-4 (days and nights)
• RNs must be prepared to float frequently to meet hospital staffing needs, including to other campuses and units
• Care teams include CNAs, care techs, transport team, paramedics, and sometimes LPNs
• Facility is 100% nicotine-free
• Weekend shifts: 4 out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat & Sun; nights: Fri & Sat nights)
• Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Locals not accepted (must live more than 100 miles from facility)
• Pending license accepted but must be in hand at time of submission or booking will be delayed six weeks
• Scrubs: Mandatory Steele gray scrubs with facility logo (provided after confirmation)

Required Qualifications

• Discipline: Registered Nurse (RN)
• Specialty: Medical Surgical - Neuro
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, specifically in a large, urban hospital setting
• EPIC charting experience required
• Drip medication administration required on all floors
• First-time travelers NOT accepted unless they have 2 years of experience at a Level I Academic Medical Center
• Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required (no mention of prior travel experience requirement)
• Licensure: Valid RN license for Nebraska (pending license accepted with conditions)
• Certifications (as applicable per unit):

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• Stroke certification and medication/pharmacology competency exams may be required as applicable

Additional Requirements & Information

• Background check within 30 days of start, including federal enhanced search

• Physical exam and fit mask test required within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tdap/Tetanus vaccine within last 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccines or positive titers
  • Hepatitis B titer or declination
  • Varicella vaccines or positive titer
  • Drug screen within 60 days of start, updated annually
  • Flu vaccine preferred but not mandatory (documentation or declination required)
  • COVID vaccine preferred; exemptions accepted
• Annual skills checklist required
• References: 2 work references from past 2 years required
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required
• Parking available with permit or daily rates

Notes

• RNs must be flexible to float within their scope to various units and campuses
• RTO (Request Time Off) restrictions: Up to two weeks permitted, must be submitted with application
• Blackout dates for time off due to College World Series: June 11-22, 2026
