Registered Nurse (Cath Lab) - Brooklyn, NY (Travel/Contract)
Job Overview
- Location: Brooklyn, New York
- Contract Length: 8 weeks
- Unit: Mixed procedural Cath Lab supporting Cardiac Cath, Electrophysiology (EP), and Interventional Radiology (IR)
- Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours (9:00 AM – 9:30 PM, includes 30-minute lunch)
- Schedule: No weekends or on-call required
- Start Date: ASAP (targeted start January 26, 2026)
- Patient Population: Adult patients
- Patient Ratio: 1:4 on day shift
- Unit Census: Average daily census 10 patients, 2 procedure rooms, 6 beds
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (highest requirement)
- Previous charge nurse experience required
- Experience working with 1:4 patient ratios
- Experience with EPIC documentation system
- Experience in a teaching hospital setting
- Ability to float to IR/EP Prep & Recovery areas
Clinical Skills & Competencies
- Pre- and post-procedure care in a Cath Lab environment
- Medication competencies including:
- Antihypertensives
- Emergency medications
- IV vasopressors
- Procedural sedation administration and monitoring
- Reversal agents
- IV therapy skills:
- IV infusion pumps
- PICC line care and maintenance
- Starting and maintaining IVs
- Professional knowledge and skills:
- ACT (Activated Clotting Time)
- Circulating procedures
- End-tidal CO2 monitoring
- Infection prevention
- Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
- Isolation precautions
- Sedation monitoring
- 12-lead EKG acquisition
- Radiation and laser safety
- Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale
- Topical hemostasis techniques (D-Stat, Chito-Seal, Syvek Patch)
- Vascular closure systems (Perclose, StarClose)
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
Technology & Systems
- Medication management via Omnicell
- Documentation in EPIC
- Communication framework: SBAR
Provider Support & Coverage
- Interpretation services available
- Pharmacy support
- Rapid response teams
- Provider coverage by NP/PA and Cardiologist (not in-house 24/7)
Orientation & Uniform
- Orientation duration: 11.5 hours
- Scrubs provided
Additional Requirements & Information
- Prior travel experience: Not required; first-time travelers accepted pending work history
- Background checks including criminal, education verification, and state-specific searches required
- Health requirements include:
- Physical exam within 1 year
- Fit mask test (N95) within 1 year
- Immunizations and titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, TDAP vaccine within 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required annually
- Competency exams and training modules required, including:
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (time sensitive, pass/fail)
- Core training modules (Parts I, II, III)
- OSHA mandatory training
- Harassment prevention training (New York specific)
- Facility-specific documents and acknowledgments must be completed prior to start (e.g., Code of Conduct, Privacy & Confidentiality, Drug-Free Workplace Policy)
- References: Two manager/supervisor references required (charge nurse references generally not accepted unless approved)
