Job Opportunity: Pediatric OR Registered Nurse
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Blocked schedule: Friday-Sunday, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM
- Types of cases: General surgery, urology, orthopedic, neurosurgery, ophthalmology, advanced ENT, spine
- Must be able to scrub and circulate
- Scrubs provided
- No on-call required
- Locals accepted
- Block scheduling requests must be included and approved with submission
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
- Minimum 1.5 years of Pediatric OR (Operating Room) experience, with experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- IV Certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Experience in an acute care setting
Additional Required Certifications (as applicable)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Not required for Pediatric OR RN
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification required
- CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) preferred but not required
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Not required for Pediatric OR RN
- CHEMO certification - Not required for Operating Room RN
- Other certifications may be required depending on specific unit or cases
Prior Travel Experience
- No explicit prior travel experience required
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 30 days of start (including criminal, alias, and employment verification)
- Drug screen within 30 days of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframe
- Physical exam within 12 months of start, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance as required
- Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
- Two references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Completion of medication, dysrhythmia/EKG, IV therapy, and competency exams within required timeframes
- Completion of annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation materials
Important Notes
- All RNs must complete the Peripheral IV and Central Line Education Package for new bookings (fee applies)
- Candidates must be able to scrub and circulate in the OR
- Block scheduling is mandatory and must be approved
- Scrubs are provided on assignment
- No on-call duties
- Locals are accepted for this assignment
This position is ideal for Pediatric OR RNs with at least 1.5 years of experience who are comfortable working a blocked weekend night schedule and have the required certifications.
