Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: San Francisco, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Position primarily in Emergency Department (ED) holding; will float to Medical-Surgical (MS) and Telemetry (Tele) units when not utilized in ED holding.
- Provide nursing care demonstrating evidence-based practice, knowledge of pathophysiology, pharmacology, and regulatory standards.
- Perform clinical procedures including IV insertion, Foley catheterization, dressing changes.
- Deliver effective patient and family education.
- Utilize telemetry monitoring, ventilators, and administer medications safely.
- Recognize and respond to changes in patient condition.
- Act as patient advocate and work independently and collaboratively within the team.
- Maintain professional appearance and complete assigned tasks timely.
Shift Details
- Day shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM to 7:30 PM)
- Weekend rotation required
- No on-call requirement
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in California
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including social security trace with all aliases, county searches, sex offender registry, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening within 2 weeks of start. Monthly FACIS updates required thereafter.
- Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps; employment verification required for up to 7 years.
- Professional references: 2 for clinical/allied/per diem acute care candidates (within 3 years).
- Education verification required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred but not mandatory.
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law).
- TB screening questionnaire within 90 days of start, renewed annually; negative TB test or chest x-ray required.
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including clearance for work.
- Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually; PAPR training if fit test failed due to facial hair or other reasons.
- Immunizations and titers required: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years), Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, and seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov-Apr). Religious and medical exemptions considered with proper documentation.
- Respiratory safety clearance required prior to start, renewed annually.
- Additional facility-specific documents and attestations must be reviewed and signed prior to start.
Competency and Testing Requirements
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable.
- Unit-specific skills checklist, renewed annually.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required for Telemetry units.
- ICU RNs may be required to take an onsite EKG exam after start.
Additional Notes
- Candidate must accept constructive feedback and demonstrate initiative in follow-up tasks.
- Professional appearance and adherence to safety behaviors are expected.
- No prior travel experience explicitly required for this position.
