Job Opportunity: Case Manager - Registered Nurse
Location: Redlands, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Case Manager role primarily for the Emergency Department (ED) with most services offered.
- Pediatric patients and babies are transferred out.
- Tertiary level care including STEMI and neurological services are transferred to higher-level care.
- No trauma or burn cases.
- Average daily census: 15 patients; 22 rooms, 34 beds.
- Every other weekend shift required.
- Navy blue scrubs required (not provided).
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 3 years of Case Management experience, including experience within the last year
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Experience in an Acute Care setting
- Experience in Care Coordination
- Experience in Concurrent Review
- Experience in Determining Medical Necessity per Evidence-Based Guidelines
- Experience in Needs Assessment and Ordering Durable Medical Equipment (DME)
- Experience in Utilizing InterQual Criteria for Utilization Review
- Experience with CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) guidelines
- Experience with The Joint Commission standards, including Core Measures and National Safety Goals
- Discharge Planning expertise
Required Certifications (as applicable to RN in this role)
- BLS (AHA only; RQI not acceptable)
- MAB (certificate must be AB508 compliant)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Required for RNs in ED, ICU, and related units
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for RNs in ED and related units
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required for OB/Couplet Care, L&D, NICU (if applicable)
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Required for OB/Couplet Care, L&D (if applicable)
- NIH Stroke Certification - Required for RNs in Telemetry, ICU, ED, Observation, PACU, Surgery Prep (if applicable)
Additional Requirements
- Background checks including SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender, and international (if applicable).
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen including THC within 30 days of start.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months, updated annually.
- Immunizations and titers as per facility policy, including but not limited to:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (updated every 10 years)
- TB screening (2-step PPD, Q Gold, or T-Spot within 90 days of start)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (titers or vaccines)
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination with proof)
- Varicella (titers or vaccines)
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or declination (mask required if declined)
- COVID-19 vaccination plus booster or approved exemption
- Fit mask testing required prior to start.
- Compliance with facility-specific policies including confidentiality, code of conduct, abuse reporting, and safety manuals.
- Photo for badge following dress code guidelines (natural hair colors, no visible tattoos or face piercings).
- References: 2 professional references within 2 years (for Vaya compliance).
Work Environment
- Tertiary care setting without trauma or burn cases.
- Average census and bed count as noted.
- Emphasis on care coordination and discharge planning within an acute hospital environment.
This position is suitable for experienced RNs with strong acute care and case management skills, comfortable working in an ED setting with a focus on coordination and utilization review. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
