Job Details
- Patient ratio: 1:4
- Unit size: 8 beds
- Experience with a variety of patient diagnoses required, including:
- Cardiac: post cardiac procedures, A-fib/flutter, stable AMIs
- Respiratory: Optiflow, V-60s (no ventilators)
- Diabetics: insulin drips
- Cardiac drips: Cardizem, Cardene, Amiodarone, Tridil, renal dose Dopamine, Heparin
- New travelers are acceptable if they have stepdown or PCU experience
- Self-scheduling with every other weekend required
- No local candidates within 90 miles radius
- Orientation every other Monday
- EPIC charting experience preferred
- Maximum 7 days allowed for time off
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Alabama
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) certification
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience with Optiflow and V-60s respiratory support devices
- Experience administering Cardizem, Cardene, and Heparin drips
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- State License 1 Verification
- NURSYS Verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP)
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
- NIH Stroke Certification required (except PEDS, NICU & surgery) and must be current
- Core Competency Exams I-III preferred (Prophecy platform preferred)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement required
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check: 7-year criminal check, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
- Employment eligibility verification (I-9, E-Verify) required
- Social Security card required
- Driver’s license required on first day; name must match RN license
- Shirley’s Law APS Clearance Form and results required prior to orientation (time sensitive)
- Facility-specific modules must be completed prior to orientation
- Photo for badge required within 72 hours of signing contract (passport-style, no nose rings)
- Physical exam updated annually attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Fit mask test required annually (specific approved masks only)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year required
- Immunizations or titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or declination)
- Drug testing: 10-panel within 90 days of start, updated annually
- Flu vaccination required for placements starting on or after 9/15; declinations not accepted (mask required if exempt)
- COVID vaccine voluntary
Additional Notes
- Candidates must live outside a 90-mile radius of the facility
- Scheduling includes every other weekend
- Orientation and contract end dates are aligned with a Wednesday-Tuesday pay period
- Scrubs: all navy or navy bottoms with white top
This position is ideal for experienced CVICU nurses comfortable with cardiac and respiratory patient care, including managing drips and post-procedure patients, who are willing to travel and meet the outlined compliance and documentation requirements.
