Job Opportunity: Stepdown Registered Nurse

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Start Date: ASAP
Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts (7 PM - 7 AM), weekdays and some weekends
Patient Ratio: Typically 1:4, may flex to 1:5 in emergencies
Unit: Stepdown / Immediate Care Unit (acuity varies; includes Progressive Care or Telemetry patients)

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
• Minimum 2 years of Stepdown nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Additional Information

• Holiday time-off requests limited to no more than 2 of the 4 major holidays
• Weekend block schedules may be considered (Fri-Sun or Sat-Mon)
• Scrubs are not provided; dress code includes burgundy and/or white scrubs
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system used: Cerner

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

Candidates must provide the following prior to start:

• Proof of RN license verification
• Specialty-specific skills checklist
• Minimum 2 clinical or managerial references within the past 2 years
• Required certifications on file (no pending certifications allowed)
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history and other standard screenings
• Health documents including:

  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Immunizations and titers (e.g., TB test, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella)
  • Drug screening (10 panel, within 30 days of start and annually)
  • COVID vaccine or declination
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (required during flu season)
• Completion of facility-specific training modules and competency exams prior to orientation
• Completion of ReadySet (RS) health assessment surveys
• Color blindness testing and competency exams as applicable

Notes

• Candidates must have all required certifications and documentation completed before starting; no exceptions for pending certifications.
• The acuity of patients may vary, including progressive care and telemetry patients typical of a larger facility’s stepdown unit.
• This position requires night shifts with some weekend work.
• The facility uses Cerner EMR; candidates must complete Cerner training modules prior to orientation.
