Job Details
- Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM, 3 shifts of 12 hours each per week
- Float Requirement: Must float between two nearby campuses (within walking distance, shared parking, shuttle available)
- Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics
- Required Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Block Scheduling: Accommodated
Required Qualifications
- Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Connecticut
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential with a minimum of 2 years of experience in respiratory therapy
- Respiratory therapy experience within the last year
- Trauma experience
- Adult critical care ventilator experience
- Certifications:
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Basic Life Support (BLS)

- Large facility with 1,567 staffed beds
- Electronic Health Record system: Epic
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check (updated annually) including SSN trace, statewide, national sex offender, and federal checks
- Education verification and foreign equivalency evaluation (if applicable)
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug test within 12 months
- Physical exam within 12 months
- Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (clean shaven required)
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- TB test or chest X-ray
- Tdap (preferred for certain specialties)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccination or positive titers
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (required during flu season)
- COVID vaccination preferred but not required
Additional Training and Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (must score 85%)
- Color blindness test (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024)
- Various facility-specific training modules and attestations including:
- Stroke education (for RNs, not applicable here but may be relevant for float pool)
- CLABSI prevention
- Pressure injury prevention
- Language services
- CAUTI education
- Patient transportation with oxygen
- Suicide risk and environmental assessment
- Pyxis ES MedStation training
- Baxter pump interoperability
- Patient bedside rounding
- Ventricular assist device awareness
- Blood administration (annual update)
- New employee orientation
- 21st Century Cures Act module (required for RRT)
- Chaperone policy training
- EPIC testing or training (optional but highly encouraged)
Work History and References
- Must provide a 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
- Verification of employment for the last 7 years required
- One supervisor reference within the past year required for ICU assignments (charge nurse references not accepted)
