Job Opportunity: Speech Language Pathologist - Acute Care

Location: Saint Louis, Missouri

Job Description

• Provide skilled speech and swallow therapy services to acute care inpatients.
• Perform evaluations and treatments including bedside swallow evaluations and Modified Barium Swallow Studies (MBSS).
• Establish treatment plans considering discharge needs and expected functional status.
• Educate and collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
• Complete documentation according to departmental policies.
• May float within service line and scope to meet facility needs.
• Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM (start time flexible up to 8:00 AM).
• Weekend requirement: Must work one weekend (Saturday and Sunday) during a 6-week period, with a compensatory day off during that week.
• No on-call duties.

Required Skills & Experience

• Valid Speech Language Pathologist license in Missouri.
• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Speech Language Pathologist, including experience within the last year.
• Minimum 1 year of experience in acute care/inpatient speech language pathology.
• Dysphagia experience.
• Training in Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS).
• Acute care experience.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• CCC-SLP (Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology).

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Current State License for Speech Language Pathologist in Missouri (pending state license accepted).
• BLS (Basic Life Support).
• CCC-SLP (Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology).
• MBSImP certification preferred but not required.

Additional Requirements

• Must be able to work within a 75-mile local radius rule (locals not accepted).
• No more than 7 days off within the 13-week contract period.
• Guaranteed minimum of 3 shifts per 13 weeks.
• Government-issued ID required.
• Background checks including criminal, education verification, and state-specific searches are mandatory.
• Physical exam within 1 year of start required.
• Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually.
• Immunizations and health screenings required: Tdap, TB testing, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Flu vaccination or exemption, drug testing.
• Compliance with facility policies including HIPAA, hand hygiene, dress code, and confidentiality.
• Completion of facility-specific orientation and training modules prior to start.
• Two professional references required.

Work Environment

• Acute care hospital with 1259 staffed beds.
• Teaching hospital with trauma level designation.
• Charting system: EPIC.
• Scrub colors: Black, Grey, or Khaki.
• Parking available (details provided during orientation).

Notes

• Floating may be required within the service line and scope of practice.
• Weekend work is required but limited to one weekend every 6 weeks.
• No on-call responsibilities.
• First-time travel therapists are welcome to apply.
