ICU Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Shift: Nights (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work in a high acuity stepdown Respiratory Care Unit (ICU) with ventilated patients.
- Patient-to-nurse ratio typically 3:1, may go up to 4:1 depending on staffing.
- Schedule includes every other week (EOW) shifts, float and holiday shifts as needed.
- Travel pairs will not be considered.
- Local candidates within a 60-mile radius are also considered.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Florida.
- Minimum 3 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Experience in Trauma and Neurology critical care.
- Current ACLS certification.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Preferred Qualifications
- Charge RN experience.
- Experience in SICU, MICU, Trauma, and Stroke units.
- Cerner experience is a plus.
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service).
- Background check within 6 months including all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years.
- Education verification and accreditation confirmation required.
- Physical exam within 6 months of start, signed by DO, MD, NP, APRN, or PA, confirming ability to perform job without restrictions.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (instant tests not accepted).
- Annual fit mask test with approved masks (3M 1860 Regular or Small).
- QuantiFERON (QGOLD) TB test within 6 months or chest X-ray if prior positive.
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; boosters or declination accepted)
- Hepatitis B (series, titer, or signed declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines, positive titer, or declination)
- Annual TB questionnaire.
- Flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).
- Two professional references from the last 2 years (state mandated for all direct patient contact candidates).
- Annual skills checklist.
- Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance required prior to start.
Required Training & Certifications
Candidates must complete and provide certificates for the following modules (validity periods apply):
- Broward Health Clinical Orientation Module (1 year)
- Annual Risk Management Course Module (1 year)
- General Compliance & Ethics Training Module (1 year)
- Code of Conduct Module (1 year)
- Comprehensive Emergency Management Education Module (1 year)
- Preventing & Reporting Workplace Harassment Module (1 year)
- ER/Trauma/Stroke related modules including NIH Stroke Certification
- Medication competency exams and other nursing-specific modules (various expiration periods)
- Additional nursing-specific modules such as:
- Handling Hazardous Drugs
- ICU Medical: Attaching Spiros and Building Primary Sets for Hazardous Administrations
- Clinical Reference Guides
- Dysphagia and Aspiration Precautions
- Stroke and Stroke Core Measures Review
- Nurses' Guide to Safely Administering IV Medication
- End of Life Care
- Procedural Sedation Adults and Pediatrics
- Compressed Gas Cylinder Safety (for OR/perioperative nurses)
- Formaldehyde and Laser Safety (for OR nurses)
- PPE Donning and Doffing for COVID-19
- Blood Administration & Anticoagulant Therapy
- HIPAA Privacy Training (all candidates)
Additional Notes
- Must have Epic experience.
- Prior travel experience is not required.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with strong critical care, trauma, and neuro skills who are comfortable working nights in a high-acuity respiratory care stepdown unit.
