Job Opportunity: Radiation Therapist

Location: Irvine, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide radiation therapy to approximately 60-70 patients per day.
  • Patient treatments include use of TrueBeam, Ethos, and MRI-LinAc technologies.
  • Patient population primarily adult/geriatric with occasional adolescent cases.
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team including radiation therapists, dosimetrists, physicists, nurses, physicians, and support staff.
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts. Hours may range from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM depending on unit needs and traveler availability.
  • No weekends or on-call duties.
  • Documentation using EPIC system.
  • Orientation provided (~3 shifts, more if needed).
  • Grey scrubs required (not provided).
  • First-time travelers are welcome.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of Radiation Therapist experience; 5 years preferred.
  • Valid California State Radiation Therapist License.
  • ARRT (Therapy) certification.
  • BLS certification.
  • Experience with:
    • Adult outpatient radiation therapy
    • CBCT/kV/mV imaging
    • Benign brain tumors
    • External beam therapy
    • IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy)
    • Prostate cancer treatments involving seeds/fiducials
    • Respiratory gating
    • Stereotactic radiosurgery
    • Radiation safety protocols
    • Varis-Vision/ARIA and TrueBeam systems

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Experience in teaching hospital settings.
  • CT simulation and custom molds.
  • Treatment of gynecomastia, keloids, superior vena cava syndrome.
  • Assisting with intracavity/interstitial administration.
  • Treatment of various cancers including Hodgkin’s lymphoma, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, kidney, leukemia, pancreatic, and testicular cancers.
  • Familiarity with Siemens, Varian 21 ex/ix, Varian Trilogy, Vision RT.
  • Patient care in restraints, emergency response (crash cart, defibrillators).
  • Patient and family education.
  • Billing for treatment types and devices.
  • Isolation precautions.
  • Use of rapid response/code teams.
  • Ability to lift and transfer patients.

Certifications (As Applicable)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – required based on unit/specialty
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – required for pediatric units and PACU
  • Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) if applicable
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – preferred, not required for ER

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID.
  • Background checks including social security trace, education verification, and national sex offender registry.
  • Education verification and diploma/transcripts.
  • Primary source verification of state license.
  • Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as applicable.
  • Physical exam within last 12 months.
  • Immunizations and titers: MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Tdap, TB screening (2-step PPD or equivalent).
  • Drug screening (10-panel oral drug screen within 1 year).
  • Respirator questionnaire and fit testing (fit testing completed onsite).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption.
  • COVID-19 booster or declination form as required.
  • Job description acknowledgement and other facility-specific forms.

Additional Information

  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required annually.
  • Respiratory safety clearance required annually for respirator use.
  • Skills checklist required annually.
  • No prior travel experience required; first-time travelers are accepted.
