Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - NICU

Location: Richmond, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position: NICU Registered Nurse
  • Shifts: Rotating shifts
  • Minimum Experience: 2 years in specialty required (NICU)
  • Must have prior travel nursing experience
  • Epic electronic health record system experience required (no exceptions)

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Current, permanent RN license in Virginia (temporary licenses not accepted)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA only)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
  • Additional certifications may be required per unit/job description (e.g., ACLS, PALS, TNCC)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • Minimum 2 years of NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NRP certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including all states lived/worked in past 7 years
  • State and federal exclusion screenings (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG) within 30 days of start
  • Education verification from an accredited nursing program (NLN or CCNE accredited)
  • Fingerprinting and CPS (Central Registry) checks required for Pediatrics and NICU units
  • Drug screening within 60 days of start (9-panel minimum, instant screens not accepted)
  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to meet job demands
  • Immunizations and titers required: Tdap, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
  • Annual TB testing and questionnaire required
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required

Orientation & Competency Testing

  • Pharmacology exam, point of care testing, and mask fitting at orientation (not pass/fail)
  • Basic Knowledge Assessment Tool (BKAT) for Telemetry/Step-Down, Progressive Care, and ICU units
  • Completion of assigned learning modules during orientation week (approx. 6 hours)

Additional Notes

  • Locals allowed at the same rate as travelers
  • Performance evaluations completed at end of assignment (not required prior to start)
  • Two professional references required
  • Complete application and updated skills checklist required

This position is ideal for experienced NICU RNs with prior travel nursing experience who are proficient in Epic and able to work rotating shifts. Compliance with all background, health, and certification requirements is mandatory.
