Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – PCU Float

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Float Pool during day shifts.
  • May float to any stepdown/PCU area and potentially to other campuses.
  • Floating may include units with equivalent or lower acuity.
  • Estimated patient ratios: 1 nurse to 3-4 patients.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Telemetry PCU (Progressive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Telemetry (Tele) experience required
  • Experience with Epic Electronic Medical Record system

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and state fingerprinting.
  • Monthly monitoring through workforce screening systems.
  • Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
  • Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting required with specific codes; must be current within 1 year of start.
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Immunizations and documentation required:
    • Tdap (Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccination series (declination acceptable)
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed).

Competency and Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam prior to start.
  • Unit-specific competency exams.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (with remediation process if needed).

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership.
  • Employment application including education verification.
  • Skills checklist completion required.
  • Annual acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies.
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually.

  • Floating assignments may require flexibility to work across multiple units and campuses.
