Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification (Healthcare Provider/Professional Rescuer) - AHA
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) Certification - AHA

Job Description & Responsibilities

• Must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips
• Staffing ratio: 1 RN to 4 patients in a pod format
• Patient acuity comparable to ICU at smaller facilities
• Patient population includes:

  • Acute stroke management (ischemic, hemorrhagic, subarachnoid hemorrhage)
  • Post neuro-surgical management (craniotomy, ventriculostomy, complex neuro-spine cases)
  • Seizure management (epilepsy, post-ictal, pseudo-seizures)
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Guillain-Barre syndrome

Skills Utilized

• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Lumbar puncture assistance
• Management of arterial lines, central lines, tracheotomy patients, lumbar drains
• IV start skills, peripheral and arterial blood draws
• Administration and monitoring of various intravenous drips (cardiac, insulin, heparin)
• Cardiac monitoring

Additional Information

• Must pass Relias exams upon booking (2 attempts allowed; failure on second attempt results in pre-start cancellation)
• No blocked scheduling
• 80 mile radius rule applies
• All requested time off (RTO) must be approved prior to assignment confirmation
• EPIC electronic health record system used

This position is suitable for experienced PCU nurses comfortable with high-acuity patients and advanced monitoring and interventions.
