Registered Nurse - PCU (Telemetry)

Job Description

• Care for patients requiring telemetry monitoring with a focus on neurological and complex neuro-spine cases.
• Patient population includes acute stroke management (ischemic, hemorrhagic, SAH), post neuro-surgical care (craniotomy, ventriculostomy), seizure management (epilepsy, post-ictal, pseudo-seizures), multiple sclerosis, Guillain-Barre syndrome, brain tumors, encephalopathy, laminectomies, transverse myelitis, and related conditions.
• Utilize skills such as NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), lumbar puncture assistance, arterial and peripheral blood draws, IV starts, management of arterial lines, central lines, tracheotomy care, lumbar drains, and administration of various intravenous drips (cardiac, insulin, heparin).
• Must be able to read and interpret cardiac strips.
• Patient-to-nurse ratio typically 1:4 or 1:5 depending on acuity.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of telemetry/PCU - Progressive Care Unit nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• One completed travel nursing assignment
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Scheduling & Other Details

• 3 out of 4 holidays and 6 weekend shifts required within a 6-week schedule.
• No blocked scheduling allowed.
• All requests for time off (RTO) must be submitted prior to assignment confirmation.
• Must comply with an 80-mile local radius rule.

Additional Notes

• EKG and pharmacology exam required during compliance/prestart process.
