Respiratory Therapy Travel Job – Chicago, Illinois

Job Details

  • Employment Type: Travel
  • Contract Length: 4 weeks
  • Start Date: ASAP (bi-weekly orientation)
  • Shift: 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 72 hours biweekly (1 cancellation allowed per 2-week period)
  • Weekend/Holiday Schedule: Every other weekend and holiday rotation
  • Primary Work Locations: Multiple hospital units including Emergency Department (ED), Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Medical-Surgical (MSP), Labor & Delivery (L&D), nursery, and outpatient diagnostic center
  • Unit Size: Approximately 25 beds per unit; Respiratory Therapists typically cover 2 units
  • Patient Types: Includes COVID-19 patients
  • Typical Workload: About 5 therapies per round plus oxygen management; RTs have their own units but collaborate as needed

Required Qualifications

  • License: Illinois Respiratory Care Practitioner (IL RCP) license required
  • Certifications: BLS, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and either Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of respiratory therapy experience, including ventilator management, EKG, and arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis
  • Unit-Specific Skills: Level 2 Nursery/NICU experience required, including low flow vapotherm use and assisting with intubation or ventilator setup until patient transfer
  • Charting: Experience with MediTech preferred but not mandatory
  • Travel Experience: At least one completed travel contract required; no new travelers accepted

Additional Information

  • Orientation: 12 hours non-billable orientation; guaranteed hours not applicable during orientation week
  • Work Style: Candidates should be hardworking, resilient, able to manage change well, socially adept, and capable of working independently to complete tasks timely
  • Uniform: Scrub color is grey
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Vaccination required unless a medical or religious exemption is approved by committee prior to start date
