Nephrology RN

Overview

• Shift: Nights
• Hours: 36 hours per week, 12-hour shifts

Required Qualifications

• Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• BLS (AHA)
• Gen-med background
• Must provide the last four digits of SSN, middle initial, and requested time off for submission
• Must be able to produce a negative drug screen for all panels

Preferred Qualifications

• Nephrology or urology background

Unit Details

• 21-bed nephrology unit
• All private rooms except one semi-private room
• Overhead lift equipment in all rooms
• Bedside report and 1–2 hour rounding on patients is required
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4–5 on days, 1:5–6 on nights
• PCT support is available on all shifts
• Telemetry is monitored by TeleTech on another unit; nurses are not required to read or interpret telemetry strips
• No vents on the unit
• Respiratory therapists are available for assistance and respiratory treatments
• Charge nurse is present 24/7 and normally does not take patients
• House supervisor is present 24/7

Scheduling

• Self-scheduling is available
• Willing to work with block scheduling and traveler needs while meeting unit needs
• Weekend requirement: every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: every other holiday
• No call shifts

Floating

• May float to other general medical units
• May be asked to float as a sitter or to the ED or ICUs as help-all only, though this is very infrequent

Orientation

• 3 days with a preceptor

• Local placements are accepted within a 50-mile radius
• Local clinicians within 50 miles are subject to a reduced rate
• The unit follows a drug-free campus policy
