Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Room (ER)
Location: Yuma, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
Hospital in Southern Arizona is seeking RNs for a 13-week assignment in the Emergency Room (ER) unit.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of ER experience within the past 3 years
- Experience must be from Level I or II trauma centers (Level III or Critical Access Hospital experience not accepted)
- Current certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Epic EMR proficiency with recent use required
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred
Unit Details
- Trauma Level: Level 3 trauma center (ER operates like Level 1)
- Beds: 52 total with 4 trauma bays
- Average patient volume: Approximately 200 patients per day
- Patient types: All emergency cases including STEMI and stroke receiving (stroke interventions are transferred out)
- Ratios:
- 1:5 for medical patients
- 1:6 for fast track patients
- Fast Track: 6 beds
- Triage: Two quick-look areas using Emergency Severity Index (ESI)
- Holding area: Intermixed within ER
- Psych/seclusion rooms: None
- Security: In-house 24/7, located near ED lobby
- Common drips: ICU-level drips for hold patients with ICU support available
- Staff:
- Physicians and mid-level providers on varied shifts, including pediatric board-certified providers
- No charge nurse on shift; House Supervisor available for assistance
- ED techs with 2+ years experience perform EKGs, vitals, blood draws, splints
- Patient Care Assistants (PCAs) with less than 2 years experience assist with similar duties
- Respiratory Therapists (RT) assigned 24/7 for ABGs, nebulizer treatments, ventilators, CPAP
- RT Equipment: Glidescope, Hamilton and Phillips ventilators
- Telemetry/Monitor Techs: RN reads own telemetry with monitor tech support
- Imaging: Dedicated CT and X-ray in ER; transport team available for critical patients (RN accompanies)
- Lab draws: ED techs perform labs; RNs may draw from IV starts
Scheduling & Orientation
- Shift start times vary: 7am, 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 3pm
- Modified self-scheduling
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week block
- Holiday requirement: Typically 2 holidays (including eves) per contract
- Orientation:
- One New Employee Orientation (NEO)
- One day clinical/EPIC training
- One day floor orientation
- Uniform scrub color: Navy blue
Additional Information
- Start dates are fixed and not flexible
- 100-mile radius rule applies
- No 48-hour shift guarantees
- No blocked scheduling requests
- Maximum of 5 days Return to Office (RTO) allowed
- Floating: Shared schedule with nearby freestanding ER, typically scheduled ahead of time with infrequent last-minute floating (15-minute drive)
